Presenter: Bob Wheeler, Vice President of Maritime and Port Security with Allied Universal.
Robert Wheeler is the Vice President of Aviation and Maritime for Allied Universal’s Government
Services Division. Robert’s verticals include 43 airport contract security programs ranging from General
Aviation to full Category X programs, and 19 different seaports between Port Authority and marine
vessel locations. Robert serves as Allied Universal’s primary subject matter expert on issues surrounding
airport and seaport security programs. Robert is an active member of ALEAN, ASIS, InfraGard, AAAE’s
Security Committee and was recently voted on to a seat for ACI-NA’s Public Safety and Security Steering
Committee. In 2020, Robert was selected to serve as the Transportation- Maritime Sector Chief for San
Diego’s InfraGard Chapter. Robert has sat on 3 PARAS panels with the FAA funded Safe Skies Alliance,
and has been a panel member and/or speaker for ASIS, InfraGard and All-Hazards Consortium. Robert
has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and is currently finishing his MBA in Project Management.
Robert is a former Merchant Mariner, where he worked on cruise ships for Holland America Line as a
Chief Security Officer and Rescue Squad Commander. He was the contracted Security Director for the
Port of San Diego, former Manager with Elite Show Services in San Diego supervising MLB and NFL
events. Robert has worked as a Fugitive Recovery Officer (Bounty Hunter) in San Diego, Los Angeles,
Orange and Riverside Counties; and was a contracted for deportation escorts. Robert started out his
security and law enforcement career as an Explorer Deputy with the San Diego County Sheriff’s
Department and worked his way to becoming a sworn police officer. As a police officer in Southern
California, Robert worked patrol, communications, patrol-gang suppression, PRT, and in the accident
investigation and detective bureaus. Robert was a first responder to 2 SoCal high school active shooter
scenes, and was one of the pioneering officers on the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team at the
time. Robert’s career transition from government to private sector was due to an on-duty related injury,
but he says it has given him perspective from multiple aspects allowing him to be in the blue collar
professional in a white collar world.
